The Many Faces and Poses of Trent

Trent has been doing very well. He gets gassy and cries about it, but we started using gripe water and it seems to help. We think he likes the taste too.  We started him on a new type of formula last night so it will be interesting to see if he still gets the tummy aches. I hope not. =( Poor little guy is in pain and he just wants momma or daddy to hold him while he works it out. I had to make the bed with one hand yesterday because of this. And he is NOT spoiled because he will lay on his own all day. He just needs to be comforted when he's in pain. I can understand that. =)

Wow I can really see how much he has changed in just a few weeks by looking at this progression of photos. He's filling out! It is so much fun to watch him grow and change, but I still can't imagine him being any bigger or sitting up...or talking!! =O ! I know those times will come and go in a flash so we must enjoy every minute of his infancy.

We had some great visits this week! Aunt Sondra, Uncle Paul and Aunt Darlene came to see him on Tuesday. Dawn and the 3 kindergarten teachers (All from my old school) came on Wednesday. And the 3 first grade teachers came yesterday. Tonight the Twomey family will be visiting and we can't wait! Matt was our realtor for this house and he hasn't seen it since it was very ugly and boring. I hope he likes what we have done. Amy was our wedding photographer and she hasn't ever been here. We are so excited because they are super cool. It is so much fun how we all became friends. I love it!

Trent Week Two

Daddy was playing the piano for Trent and he loved it. I got this on video. =) I guess I should figure out how to get those videos onto the computer....hmmm. I'll work on that. This was such a sweet moment. I just cried watching it. I love my family. These are the moments I never want to forget. Thank God for technology!

Trent got to go to Sunday School for the first time yesterday and he was such a good boy. He was the star of the day and he slept the whole time! Everyone was just gaga over him. As well they should be! He is pretty much the cutest little guy ever. =) We all dressed in coordinating colors. Yay! I love to match my boys. I can't wait until his shoes fit him. We love shoes. I am very fortunate to have married a man who loves shoes almost as much as I do. Go ahead...be jealous.

It was so much fun to show him off at church. It was actually his due date, so that was fun! It is hard to believe that he could still be inside me right now. No thanks! I'm glad he came when he did. It was the perfect time. I can't wait to take him to church again and let more people see him. Maybe next time we will go to the service and I will just sit in the cry room with him during the music. It's pretty loud and I don't want to upset my sweet boy. =)

Trent Week One

Things have been going so well with baby Trent. He is such a joy and just a perfect baby. We are truly blessed beyond measure. He has adjusted to life on the outside quite well. He sleeps 4-5 hours at a time during the night and the other night he actually slept for 7 hours straight! It was awesome. He gets his love for sleep from both sides. My mom says I was sleeping up to 10 hours at 3 weeks old. And I STILL need tons of sleep to this day...except lately. God has given me special mommy energy stores. =)

Meeting his first cousins Seth, Marissa and Tyler. =) Trent is their FIRST first cousin to be born. They have been waiting a while for this.

In the car after his first Dr. appointment. I got him a sticker at checkout. =) He did a great job!

Perfect!!

Some of you know that I was trying to get him to hold out until after July 10th because I was asked to be a bridesmaid in a good friend's wedding. He wasn't due until the 25th so I thought, "no problem." Well he had other plans. I was sitting at the computer updating facebook and blogger Saturday morning. Our best friends Klint and Michelle were in tow for the wedding and staying with us. Michelle was sitting in a chair behind me and at about 11 I got up saying, "I guess I better get on the road to Mesquite." The bridal party was meeting to get ready together. Mesquite is about 45 min away. Well before I could walk across the room, there went my water. Michelle was standing right in front of me and I said, "Um I'm pretty sure my water just broke." Then we all freaked out. I asked, "Where's Joel?" and Klint told me he went to Guitar Center to exchange his harmonica set. I panicked. Of course he had told me he was going but did I hear him? No. Klint nervously called him and luckily he wasn't far from home. About 15 minutes later we were zooming to the hospital. He was speeding with the hazards on and I was putting on my makeup. I was not going to go into a photo frenzy with no makeup on. No way. 

We got all settled into the delivery room and started to wait. I did not have any contractions until they started me on petocin. I felt them for about 20 minutes before I asked for my epidural. After that was in it was smooth sailing! =) Joel was playing his harmonica and I was texting back and forth with everyone I knew. At 5:45 I was dilated to 10 cm so they called the Dr. She arrived at 6 and I started pushing soon after. At 6:17 he was here! He was so quick, they told me I better watch out with the next one or I'll have it in the car!

Waiting for contractions...obviously not in any pain yet.

37 1/2 Week Checkup

Here is our sweet little boy!!! He looks so cute! It was amazing to get to see so much detail of his face. We can't wait to see it in person and it won't be long! 

We definitely think he has my nose (the wider set nostrils) and Joel's mouth (fuller top lip and turned down corners). But in some of the other photos he had slim little corners in his mouth like mine. I think he is a good mix! The true test will be after he is a few days old. I can't wait!!!

The Dr. said the ultrasound looked great! He's about 7 lbs and progressing right on track. He was yawning when we started the sono. It was so cute. I am almost 2 cm dilated and getting very soft and ready for delivery! The Dr. was very happy with my progress. I said, "Well I'm glad part of me works properly!" Apparently my baby making system is top notch. I think I should have a pretty good delivery. She said if I started to get extremely miserable we could induce any time starting on the 20th, but she also said that Trent might not wait that long to make his grand arrival! 

I am getting miserable. Every time I get up at night I have a terrible pain in the left side of my abdomen and it even hurts to walk. This just started within the last week. I'm not sure yet if we will decide to induce. It would be nice to have a set appointment and know when it's going to happen. I hate logistics. They stress me out. It would be great to know when I'm going into labor and I think my body would react fine to inducing since it is getting ready so well already. We will just wait and see what happens though. I definitely don't want to go past my due date. I want Joel to have as much time at home with him as possible before school starts back, and I don't want to put Trent at risk by being in there too long.

However anxious I am to meet this little man as soon as possible I would prefer if he waited at least until the 15th. I am in a wedding of a very good friend on Saturday and Joel has training in Ft. Worth Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (add an hour drive to each end). It would not be so fabulous for daddy to have to be stuck in training while Trent is growing accustomed to life on the outside. We are praying that God takes care of us and gives us good timing with my delivery. I think he knows I would freak out if I went into labor while Joel was in training. =) He usually takes care of my little needs. Please pray with us. We just want to have a great first birth experience with daddy present for all of it.

Nesting

Well, I've read over and over that daddies go through their own period of nesting but I had yet to see it in Joel. Don't get me wrong, he has been wonderful and very helpful. He just hadn't gone into that zone that I was hearing about....until yesterday. We were celebrating the "4th" at my parents' house and he left early to put together the guest bed and organize the new guest bedroom. Trent's room used to be the guest room and right next door was the music room, which had gotten very cluttered with stuff when we started "carving out" Trent's room. haha The music room has now been combined with the guest room. He did a great job making it look less cluttered and getting the stereo set up perfectly. 

That's not the only evidence of his nesting. Today he went out into the yard and started ripping out all of these ugly bushes that we have been talking about ripping out for about a year. The previous owners put in WAY too much shrubbery. In one planter island we had: monkey grass, that low-growing fern stuff, TWO giant rose bushes and a poor tree that was being suffocated by all of it. That's just an example of the crazy over-planting we've been dealing with. I mean....how about some pretty pansies and some mulch?? ANYway, he got out there and worked all day ripping things out. And now he is at church band rehearsal after totally exhausting himself out there. I am so proud of him. =) 

Here is an example of some of our over-planting/overgrowth problem. In the back, you can see that tree and under it is planted a rose bush. Why? Moving forward: there are these twiggy, flowered bushes planted in front of your classic hedge bush, which is smaller than the twiggy, flowered bush. Why? And then we have monkey grass planted smack dab in front of some of that fern-y stuff. WHY? It is soooo over-planted.  Until recently there was another rose bush behind/ on top of that fern-y stuff. Joel cut those down to the branches a few weeks ago. Good Riddance!

Here is an after photo of some of Joel's work today. This tree had those twiggy, flowered bushes planted ALL around the base. WHY?! It was too much. I am going to plant some pretty flowers in there as soon as we get those roots out from the other bushes.

 Sorry it's dark...it was looking like it was going to rain today but never did =( This is a kind of before/midway shot. As you can see we have monkey grass, GIANT rose bushes fern-y stuff and a poor tree who is suffocating.

 

This is the after shot. We need to get the rest of the fern-y stuff out and rip out the roots of the rose bushes. We are going to have to cut the plastic liner to get the roots out since they are under it. Even though it's unfinished and there are ugly branches sticking out, it looks sooooo much better! Now the monkey grass can breathe and so can this poor tree. 

Trent's Nursery!

I am happy to say that Trent's nursery is almost 100% complete. There are still a few shelves that daddy needs to make, but if he were to come now Trent would be very comfortable. =) Here are some photos of what we have done.

I made the pillow. The first time I've ever sewn a pillow with a trim around it.

Mimi had the afghan custom made. =)

The quilt was handmade by moonspiritstudios on Etsy. You can customize the colors and patterns of your quilt. =) My sister and cousins all pitched in for that.

The bumper was made by my Aunt Kay. She is amazing! She is my aunt who has a home decor booth at the Frisco Mercantile. First Impressions by Kay. She is a great designer.

The bumper fabric inspired the entire room. You may remember me posting it here.

The dresser is a dark green. It belonged to Joel's parents in the 70s. It is just perfect in Trent's room!

I made the letters, which I posted about in May. 

I covered the switch plates in paper. In the future I would do it with fabric because it's more durable. 

The jar on the dresser is etched "TRENT" and belonged to my parents. I love it! (For those who might not know, Trent is my maiden name.)

This mirror was in our downstairs half bath glued to the wall vertically...you know the style! 90s. We had my dad take it and frame it but then it was too big for the bathroom. I saved it knowing I could do something with it. Now here it is all striped in Trent's room! We will have fun making silly faces in this mirror.
Daddy is going to make a shelf unit to hang to the right of the mirror and a single shelf to go under the mirror for supplies. 
The knob on the dresser door is a "T" from James and Alicia. It's perfect!

37 Weeks - A Watermelon!

Well he Trent almost here and it's showing! Daddy is talking to him every day and trying to coerce him to come out. This is my last food comparison. I will probably take one each week with a watermelon to show how my belly is still growing. I hope they have red, seedless next time! This one was yellow with seeds. Not as yummy as red. 

There is some hope yet with Joel's AP training. He found out they are offering one at TCU but the session is "closed." He looked online and there was no waiting list so he put his name on it. He's going to call tomorrow to speak to someone. If I were in charge I would let him in considering the circumstances. =) Say a prayer!

34-35 Weeks

First Weekly Dr. Appointment

We went for our first weekly appointment on Tuesday with much excitement. The time until he is here is getting shorter and shorter. I didn't gain any weight from my last appointment two weeks ago, so that rocks! The Dr. wasn't going to check me to see if I was dilated until the next but I asked her to go ahead and check me. Joel has to go to an AP training in Houston on either July 12th or July 22nd. We are hoping Trent will hold out until the 16th or later and daddy can go to the first training. That's what the Dr. thinks will happen. She checked me and I am already dilated to 1cm and starting to efface. Most people aren't dilated at all at 36 weeks but that still doesn't mean he will be early. I could be at one or two centimeters for several weeks. Regardless, our bags are packed!

We are meeting a pediatrician next Wednesday just in time for our next OB appointment on Thursday. I will be checked again and we will get to see Trent on the sonogram! I hope they get a good shot of him like the one in February. He was so cute! Maybe she'll even switch over to the 4d really quickly. =)

Until he comes, we are working on getting EVERYTHING finished. His bouncer is put together, his pack-n-play is set up, the swing will be set up today, the car seat will go in the car today and daddy is going to hang up his mirror that mommy painted. Mommy and daddy both worked on projects this past Monday for Trent's room. Once it's all done I'll do a room post. =)

Baby Shower in Baton Rouge

My lovely mother-in-law and sister-in-law threw us a shower in Baton Rouge and it was great! We got a lot of very nice things, many of which were handmade. Those kinds of gifts are always so special. It was wonderful to see our relatives and have a fun time with them.

Alicia (my sister-in-law: Joel's brother's wife) made that corsage out of socks, ribbon and a handmade paci clip! Very cute.

Alicia also made this cute owl cake out of a guitar cake pan. Clever! Joel had about 6 or 7 helpings of cake in two days. Daddy must be having sympathy cravings!

Granny came! Here she is holding Rowynn. So sweet.

And of course Aunt Kristen had to get some time holding her. =)
